Medical Research at PAREXEL

The PAREXEL unit in North West London performs early phase development studies. This kind of medical research is typically studying how new drugs are tolerated and absorbed by the body when given initially to a small number of volunteers. Sometimes the drug may not have been administered to humans before and this kind of medical research is typically referred to as a ‘first time in man’ study.

PAREXEL will always specify if the drug involved in the medical research trial is ‘first time in man’. Sometimes a sponsor may wish to perform research into an existing drug, perhaps to see if they can improve the delivery method for example, developing a tablet to replace an intravenous delivery method, or combining combinations of medicines into 1 tablet.

PAREXEL International have helped over 800 clients develop and launch some of the most important drugs and devices of our time. In fact, a recent study showed that we have played a role in the development of 19 of the top 20 drugs introduced in 1999 and 23 out of the top 25 drugs introduced in 2000.
